At School 17

It was noted that all of the climbing structures provided at the school were regularly used by children at playtime and before and after school, particularly in play areas J and E. These areas are specifically available to 5s, 6s and 7s. The play structures available at School 17 incorporate swinging, climbing and balancing equipment and are made of either metal or wood.

The younger children tended to use this equipment more often than those in the 10s 11s class, though they sometimes utilised the biggest climbing structure in the school in the 'front garden'.

Climbing is an activity encouraged by the school, and when students were asked why they liked the equipment they often answered in terms of their own personal achievements (i.e. how high they climbed today) as opposed to looking at their successes competitively.
