A group of Year 7 students was standing around talking, with one boy and two girls off to one side peering intently at something. When I walked over I saw that they were playing with a piece of thin wire. The boy had found it on the ground and turned it into a puzzle for the girls to try. The idea was to try to get the end of the wire through a small loop without touching the sides. It kept the girls engaged for a few minutes, and they were making comments like, 'This is really hard!' while the boy watched them.
