Dolls and the sandpit

These girls were playing in the sand-pit and while one of them was partially burying the legs and lower body of her doll, in much the same way as children playing at the beach might bury each others legs to perhaps keep the sun off them, the other two girls merely had their dolls lying idly by them while they made unimaginitive sandcastles (the sand was very dry which would have made more detailed sandcastles virtually impossible). The dolls had been brought from home. She school provides boxes of toys for the students to use and although they allow the students to bring toys from home, they discourage expensive or fragile toys being brought to avoid loss or breakage

A group of girls was sitting under the stairs beside a path, in the shade, sharing a plastic toy that came from Macdonald's. It was a square box that had a screen with a plastic grid over it. Paper maps can be pushed into a slot in the top of the machine, and there are knobs on the top and side of the box, for moving a little red light around behind the screen. The aim is to move the red light through the grid, and navigate your way to Macdonald's, or through a maze, or to other places according to which paper map was inserted.

The girls had 'Beanie Babies' and other soft toys, and one girl had made a swing for her toy by tying the ends of a piece of reed to a branch of a Bottlebrush tree and sitting the 'Beanie Baby on it. One of the other girls had hung her toy from the neck from another branch.

When asked if they often brought these toys to school, they replied that they had to bring them because their teacher had asked them to. They were using the soft toys to make 'Resilience Boxes', containing different items that they enjoyed, which made them feel good and which would be pleasant and comforting to them. They had decided to hang them from the tree, and were working out how to do it when they had the idea to use long dry leaves from a nearby reed.
